Godson Adiele, Abia State’s Head of Service (HOS), on Monday, announced
that no fewer than 8,000 ghost workers were recently discovered in the
state and local government public services.
Adiele disclosed this to journalists in Umuahia, while talking about
the proposed civic reception being organised by the state workers in
honour of Governor Theodore Orji.
According to him, the ghost workers were discovered when his office adopted the biometric system to audit workers on the state government’s payroll.
He explained that the civic reception was organised in appreciation
of the governor’s efforts to motivate public servants in the state.

The HOS said that no fewer than 5,000 ghost workers were uncovered
in the state civil service, while 3,000 others were from the local
governments.Adiele said that the findings had helped the government to
save money previously paid to non-existent workers.
