The Lagos edition of the sixth European Film Festival (EFF) will hold in Lagos between October 4 and 7, 2013.
A total of 16 films from Europe will be screened at the event, which will take place at the Silverbird Galleria, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, according to a statement made available by the European Commission, Abuja.
“The film show is jointly organised by the European Union (EU) Delegation to Nigeria, the Missions of the EU Member States in Nigeria and the Embassies of Switzerland, Serbia and Turkey, with the support of the Lagos State government,” it read.
Since its debut in 2008, the EFF had been staged annually in Abuja until last year when it was extended to other major cities across the country. This year’s festival is building on the unprecedented success recorded last year when the event was for the first time replicated in Lagos, which is the melting pot for Nigeria’s socio-economic life and its biggest population centre, with a robust film tradition.
“Lagos is the fourth major Nigerian city to welcome the film festival this year, after Abuja, Port Harcourt and Jos. It will be rounded off in Kaduna later this month. Since inception, the EFF has proved to be a potent platform for extending on going cultural dialogue between Nigeria and Europe; reflecting on our shared values and human aspirations; and building bridges of understanding between our peoples,” it added.
The films, according to the commission, have been carefully selected to meet the entertainment, information and education needs of film aficionados of all ages and will be shown free in all the centres.
The statement also read that the major sponsors for the event are Amstel Malta, Etisalat and Chopsticks.
