Wenger and Flamini in shirt row

Arsenal-Marseille
Arsene Wenger got shirty with Mathieu Flamini last night after Jack Wilshere became the fastest gun in the Champions League.

Midfield anchorman Flamini flouted a long-standing club tradition which dictates that Arsenal players all wear the same length sleeve as the captain.

But with his team-mates following skipper Per Mertesacker’s choice of long sleeves, Flamini took a pair of scissors to his white sleeves above the elbow and manager Wenger hissed: “I do not like that and he will not do it again. I was surprised, and we don’t want that.”

Flamini sparked a dressing room row at Old Trafford earlier this month by tailoring his shirt in similar fashion for the 1-0 defeat by Manchester United – because the kits were embossed with poppy emblems for Remembrance Day and were being auctioned for charity.

But the French international was unrepentant last night and hit back: “I’ve been playing at top level for 10 years, I like to wear short sleeves – that’s what I like to do.”
