After series of appeals and negotiations with the Academic Staff
Union of Universities (ASUU), the Federal Government seems to have lost
its cool as it ordered the defiant Union to call of the strike within
one week or face the consequences.
The ultimatum was issued by the supervisory minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, at a press conference in Abuja.
Internal ramblings have split the union as some factions believe the strike should be called off. Pro-chancellors have called for the reopening of the universities and some of the institutions have already started asking students to resume.
However some students are of the opinion that the strike should be called of next year, and have decried the selfish attitudes of the lecturers who want to collect Christmas salaries as a condition for resumption.
