ASUU strike: AAUA lecturers shun Vice-Chancellor’s resumption order

Striking lecturers at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko [AAUA], in Ondo State, today shunned the directive of the Vice Chancellor,Prof Femi Mimiko to resume academic activities in the institution.

The lecturers have insisted that only the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had the power to direct them to resume work.

According to the Chairman,AAAU branch,Dr Busuyi Mekusi, his members could not be intimidated by anybody, stressing that it is an illegality for them to go back to work when the strike has not been called off across the country.

He directed his colleagues to remain at home pending directives from their national headquarters on the suspension of the strike.

The University Authorities, had through its Registrar, R.B Olotu issued a statement ordering the students to resume yesterday for the commencement of the second semester.

But, the striking University lecturers in a statement by its State Chairman, Dr.Mekusi, said the institution would continue to be part of the ongoing strike.

He urged his members to disregard the circular calling for resumption of academic activities, stressing
that the University Chapter of ASUU was in support of the action of its national body.
