Award-winning Nigerian artiste, Innocent ’2face ‘Idibia, through his
Reach Out Foundation is calling for nominations to the 2face Peace
Awards.
The awards’ initiative was launched by the singer to touch the lives
of those, who have been affected by conflict or live in conflict-ridden
areas. The awards are also aimed to celebrate young, unsung heroes, who
are actively promoting peace in their communities.
2face revealed his plans in a statement, which read that the
6-million-naira award, would select 6 winners in the following
categories: women-led peace building, Youth Peace Building; Peace
Building in the environment; projects on urban violence and community
peace building; use of technology or Social Media for peace building,
and mediation directed at reducing violence against women and girls.
Each winner will receive a N1million cash award. They will have the
opportunity to attend key global peace summits and exchange programmes
in 2014. 2Face will mentor the winners and also assist them in sourcing
more funds.
The singer said that almost a quarter of the world lived in areas
affected by military or civil conflicts. He, however, noted that there
were young people, who had become community leaders in peace building,
reconciliation and post-conflict reconstruction, thereby establishing
themselves as the next generation of leaders.
Applicants will be screened based on the impact of their projects, innovation and sustainability.
Winners will be announced during an event marking the UN Peace Day, scheduled for September 21.
