A married Alabama mother of four had a long-term sexual relationship with one of her children’s best friends, police said.
Amanda Crews Gaskins allegedly hooked up with the child, who was between 12 and 16 years old, over an extended period of time.
The 34-year-old, from Helena, turned herself in to cops in Shelby County on Monday after a warrant was issued for her arrest.
It followed a months-long investigation after the alleged victim’s parents got wind of the alleged relationship.
Gaskins faces a charge of second-degree sodomy. An adult can be
charged with second-degree sodomy for any sexual contact other than
intercourse with someone between 12 and 16 . Taken to Shelby County
Jail, she was later released on $30,000 bond.
Helena Police Department Detective Chris Rollan told WSET he was
still investigating when the alleged affair began. He also revealed that
there could be more alleged victims.
“People are calling us with concerns since this came out on Monday,”
he said. “We are taking those calls seriously and continue to
investigate.”
Gaskins will be arraigned on Nov. 4. If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
