Two men have been arrested by the police in Plateau State for allegedly taking the lives of their own children.
Polycarp Tajan, a 20-year-old man from Bokkos Local Government Area
of the state, allegedly killed his three-month-old daughter for ritual
purposes while 25-year-old Fwangman Habakkuk, from Mangu allegedly
killed his two-year -old son after the child urinated on his bed.
According to reports,
the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Olakpe, who paraded the two
suspected along with 20 others, said the 20-year old man, has
confessed to the crime. According to him, Tajan was consulted by a
herbalist who told him that if he could bring the tongue of his
daughter, he could make him rich.
Olakpe said, “Tajan sneaked into his house around 10am on
September 12 as his wife was preparing food. He went to where the baby
was sleeping. He subsequently used a pillow to suffocate her.
“After the baby died by asphyxiation, the suspect used a knife and
cut off the baby’s tongue. His wife came in just as he was in the act
and raised the alarm.”
He said Tajan was apprehended and handed over to the police.
In the second case, Olakpe, said the , was arrested after beating his two-year-old son to death for urinating on the family bed.
He added that both men had confessed to the crime and would soon be taken to court.
The commissioner also paraded some suspects he described as
professional car snatchers, especially a woman who, along with her
accomplices, snatched a tricycle from an operator.
He said that all the suspects would be charged to court after investigations had been concluded.
