Car, housing loans to Ekiti teachers begins in October

For teachers in public primary schools in Ekiti State, this is the best of times. The disbursement of the car and housing loans promised them by the government will commence in October, state Commissioner for Education and Technology Mr. Kehinde Ojo said on Monday.

He made the disclosure at an interactive meeting with the head teachers of public primary schools and principals of junior secondary schools in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

The meeting which was at the instance of the state Deputy Governor, Prof Modupe Adelabu, who doubles as the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), was held at the SUBEB Conference Hall, Okesa, Ado-Ekiti.

The commissioner, who commended the teachers for being assiduous in their duties and effectively collaborating with the government in efforts to reposition education in the state, said the disbursement of the loans is one of the ways the government intends to make life more comfortable for them.

He said the government will continue to provide necessary infrastructure and instructional materials to schools to ensure that teaching and learning take place in conducive environment as well give incentives to teachers to keep them happy and motivated to prepare the children for better future.

Ojo also advised teachers to use the holiday period to rest, take good care of themselves and look after their health, reminding them that it is only when they are in good health that they can enjoy the fruit of their labour, be useful to themselves and their family and as well be effective at work.

Setting the tone for Monday’s parley in her capacity as SUBEB chairman, Prof Adelabu said the interactive meeting was organised to brain storm with the head teachers of public primary schools and principals who are the administrators of the basic schools on how to make a success of the government’s talent hunts among pupils, especially those who have flair for acting.

She asked the head teachers and principals to help identify such talented pupils in their schools and send their names to SUBEB for auditioning and training as the government intends to have a standing choreography and drama troupes from the basic school.

Prof Adelabu, who explained that the government has engaged a professor of Theatre Arts from the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Prof Ojo Bakare, for the screening and training of the pupils, added that the programme will also enhance the overall development of participating children by improving their social interaction, build their vocabulary and increase their confidence at expressing themselves in the public.
