Oprah Winfrey sparks racism row with claim Swiss shop assistant told her 'that handbag is too expensive for you'

Well if you ask me she cant really afford the bag,35,000 US Dollars and to be frank, she only said she wanted to 'look at it' not buy, you don't blame the lady who couldn't get down a priceless bag like that..... .read rest after the break.

Not since we took on the role of Lady Bracknell in the school production of The Importance Of Being Earnest have we screamed the words "A HANDBAG?!" with such horrified surprise.
Media mogul and billionaire Oprah Winfrey has claimed that a shop assistant refused to show her a handbag in a display case during a trip to Switzerland for Tina Turner's wedding - reportedly saying that she was told that it was too expensive.
Oprah told Entertainment Tonight: "I was in Zurich the other day, in a store whose name I will not mention. I didn't have my eyelashes on, but I was in full Oprah Winfrey gear. I had my little Donna Karan skirt and my little sandals. But obviously The Oprah Winfrey Show is not shown in Zurich.
"I go into a store and I say to the woman, 'Excuse me, may I see the bag right above your head?' and she says to me, 'No. It's too expensive.'"
According to Oprah, she asked again and the assistant replied "'No, no you don’t want to see that one, you want to see this one because that one will cost too much. You will not be able to afford that.'"
Oprah said she walked out of the shop "calmly" but said: "That clearly is you know … it (racism) still exists, of course it does."
Trudie Goetz, boutique owner and a fellow guest at Tina Turner's wedding has apologised to Oprah for the “misunderstanding”, according to local newspaper Tages Anzeiger.
The incident might seem like a scene from Pretty Woman, but it possibly reflects tensions currently felt within Switzerland.
The country is currently facing criticism after changing laws in order to restrict the movement of asylum seekers. The BBC's Imogen Foulkes has branded Oprah's experience as :"A PR disaster".
This isn't the first time Oprah's had shopping problems - the Parisian branch of Hermes was forced to apologise after turning the talk show host away in 2005.

Usher's 5years Old Hospitalised After Nearly Drowning in Pool

Usher is in the hospital again, this time, it's his son Usher Raymond V that is in the ICU at an Atlanta hospital after a serious accident in his pool on Monday.

Sources say the accident occurred around 6 PM yesterday. Usher was not home at the time.
Here's what we know (TMZ) ... The child was playing in the pool with his aunt and saw a toy in the drain. He dove down to get the toy and his arm got stuck in the drain. The aunt immediately dove in to rescue him but couldn't get his hand out. The maid then dove in and tried but was also unsuccessful.
The maid screamed for help. Two men working in the house came out, dove in and freed the boy. He was given CPR immediately and rushed to the hospital. Usher arrived and drove in the ambulance with his son.
5-year-old Usher Raymond V is the oldest of Usher's two sons with ex-wife Tameka Raymond. We're told Usher and Tameka are currently at the hospital.
Doctors have been running a series of tests and doctors say he'll be ok.
This is the second accident to strike a child in Usher's family. Tameka's 11-year-old son Kile from a previous relationship passed away last year from injuries sustained during a jet ski accident.

Army jails colonel 7 years for defrauding Bayelsa Govt

Army jails colonel 7 years for defrauding Bayelsa Govt

The Nigerian Army yesterday convicted one of its officers for defrauding the Bayelsa State Government. The officer identified as Lieutenant Colonel David Ahangba was found guilty of two-count charge out of the four counts for which he was initially charged and was subsequently handed a seven year jail sentence.
Delivering judgement at the end of its sitting in Lagos, President of the Court Martial, Brigadier General Edward Nze said the officer should also refund the sum of N150million to the Bayelsa State Government.
General Nze urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Military Police to ensure the money is recovered from the convicted officer and handed to the Bayelsa State Government.
However, Nze said the decision of the court was subject to confirmation by the Army headquarters, which is the convening authority, adding that the officer serving the sentence automatically means he is dismissed from the force.
He said: “As a rule, ex-convicts don’t serve in the armed forces and so if the superior authorities enforce the decision of the court, it automatically means that the officer has been dismissed.”
The convicted officer was arrested in 2012 following a letter from the late former National Security Adviser (NSA), General Andrew Azazi, which was directed to the Army headquarters stating that the officer impersonated him to obtain money from Bayelsa State Government.

Edo invites 1,300 teachers to defend certificates

Edo invites 1,300 teachers to defend certificates
Edo State Government has invited 1,300 primary school teachers with irregularities in their education certificates and age records to appear before a verification committee to defend themselves.

This was made known during a meeting of the state Govenor, Adams Oshiomhole with the leadership of the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) led by Mr Emmanuel Ademokun and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) led by Mr Patrick Ikosimi.
The governor, who said the exercise was not to witch-hunt anybody, however, insisted that it would not be business as usual and that those who had become too old to teach would have to go.

Oshiomhole said: “it is not my wish to preside over dismissals, first, it is not cheap.  Secondly, I have a responsibility to keep Edo going and ensure that our children are in good hands of teachers, who are not senile and also still strong to stand and competent to teach.
“If the facts reveal that there are teachers in the classrooms who do not have the requisite qualification, you cannot insist that they remain in the system.
“The good news is that those who are not too old, who are capable of being trained will remain. If we find that some are deficient and it is possible for them to benefit from training, we will give them training, what is not acceptable is to say it is business as usual,” he noted.

The governor argued “we can mismanage everything in our country, if you mismanage education, you are killing our tomorrow, our collective future.  The roads we are building, we won’t have brains to look over them.  In the absence of brains, we won’t have growth and development.
“I have asked the Ministry of Education to invite those category of teachers, whose number is about 1,300, who, from the records appear to have started their primary school before they were born to come and speak to the fact because we are not assuming that those documents are iron-cast.”
He said the primary school teachers would be paid their  salary, which was withheld while they embarked on strike, having agreed to cover the lost ground.
Recall that the governor had, at a Town Hall meeting on education in the state on July 31 said an audit carried out by the state Information and Communications Technology unit showed that 789 teachers out of 1,379 obtained their Primary School Leaving Certificates before the age of 8 or 9.

He said at the meeting that “some of the records show that there were a few who were particularly gifted and they finished primary school before they were born.
“We found that of all our Primary School Teachers, only 1,287 representing 9% out of 14,484 teachers have proper and accurate records in our system.”
91% have various forms of discrepancies in their records.
Oshiomhole said “about 1,379 teachers representing 11.5% claim that they obtained their Primary School Certificates after they had been employed as teachers.  In fact, some obtained their Primary School Certificates not more than two years ago, from the school in which they were employed as teachers.”

Nigerian Airlines To Reimburse Passengers After 2-Hour Delay

Air travelers in Nigeria have the right to demand for reimbursement after a two-hour flight delay, aviation authorities said on Tuesday, adding that passengers also have the right to free snacks, two phone calls or two emails after just an hour delay on a domestic route. Air travelers who are delayed between 10p.m. and 4a.m. or at anytime when the airport point of departure or arrival is closed, also have the right to a hotel accommodation and transportation, said Captain Fola Akinkuotu, Director General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA.

Akinkuotu, who addressed journalists in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, said the law protecting air travellers in the country, had always existed but was not implemented.
“The fact that the law is not implemented does not mean it’s not there. The law has always been there. We are on an enlightenment campaign,” he said.
Akinkuoto said on international flights, passengers who are delayed between two and four hours have the right to receive free refreshments and facilities for two free telephone calls, two SMS or two emails.
He said passengers who are delayed beyond four hours on international flights have the right to a free meal and communication facilities. Airlines that delay international passengers for up to six hours, he added, must accommodate them and transport them from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the airport.

“The passengers’ bill of rights essentially is common sense. You are travelling, your flight is delayed, don’t you think you have the right to be informed?” Akinkuotu queried.
“You don’t just wake up and say you want to go to Abuja. You plan to go to Abuja. You plan for the time to go to Abuja, you plan for the time to arrive there,” he said, adding, “If the flight is delayed, you have the right to know. You have the right not to be left there in the cold.”

Akinkuotu rejected arguments that with Nigerian airlines already under financial burden and heavy debts as well as skyrocketing aviation fuel, the new measures may be too drastic, saying “Why should the customer pay for your mistake? It’s not our intention to run any airline out of business with this law.”
He said airlines should do their homework properly to be successful in aviation business.
“My thoughts on any business is that we have to do a little home work. The most important thing is compliance with the regulation and the need for education,” he said.
For flight cancellations, Akinkuotu said passengers on domestic or international routes have the right refreshments, meals, hotel accommodation and transportation between hotel and airport. They also have the right to compensation, immediate reimbursement of full ticket cost or rerouted at the cost of the operator airline.

He said on international flights, passengers have the right to compensation and reimbursement in cash within fourteen days of full ticket cost at the price or re-routed at the cost of the operator airline.
According to the law, for downgrading a ticket to a lower cabin class, the passenger has the right to reimbursement of 30 percent of full ticket price for domestic flights and 60 percent of full ticket price for international flights.

However, for upgrading a ticket to higher ticket without a request from the passenger, the traveller has the right not to be required to pay any extra fare.
Akinkuotu called on passengers whose rights have been breached to direct their complaints to NCAA offices at various terminal buildings across the country.
He said NCAA will create more visibility at airports but urged on passengers to direct their complaints first to the airlines.
The NCAA boss said even as passengers have rights unruly behaviour will not be tolerated.
He said passengers’ rights do not cover those who are travelling on free tickets.

Gay Pastor Arrested in Aba

The Aba Police Area Command has arrested a 40-year-old Prophet/Pastor, Benjamin Ndubuisi, for having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 23-year-old man.

Investigations revealed that the prophet whose church is located at 89 Ukaegbu Road, Ogbor Hill has been involved in the unholy act with the victim since he engaged him as a worker in his church.

Trouble started for the prophet when his victim who gave his name as Ndukwe took ill two weeks ago and worried by his continued deteriorating health condition, confessed to his family about the secret love affairs between him and the gay prophet.

Residents of the area hinted that Ndubuisi, who is a prophet in one of the white garment churches in Ogbor Hill, engaged his victim as a worker in the church as a ploy to always have him around to satisfy his séxual urge.

The gay prophet is alleged to have administered oath to Ndukwe to stop him from divulging the details of the love affair between them to his relatives and members of the church.

Worried by the shocking revelation, Ndukwe’s parents alerted policemen leading to the arrest of the homoséxual prophet.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Galadima Rubies, told the court that the accused committed the offence at Ogbor Hill in Aba on July 28.

According to him, Benjamin had a carnal knowledge of a man’s son through the anus.

Rubies said the offence contravened Section 214 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Abia 2005.
When the suspect was arraigned in court, he pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N200, 000 with a surety in like sum.

Magistrate K. I. Udo said the surety should be resident within the court’s jurisdiction as part of the bail conditions.

The accused may be sentenced to 14 years imprisonment on conviction.

The case was adjourned to September 9 for further hearing.

Charly Boy's Writes to the Youth...

A couple of days ago, self acclaimed area fada of Abuja entertainment, Charly Boy wrote an open letter to the Pope commending him and also discussing gay issues.

This time, his letter is addressed to the youths of Nigeria.

Read it below:
The Area father...Charly Boy.

One of the many things God blessed me with would be the ability to go to sleep at will even if my house is on fire. I consider that as a gift because this environment has murdered sleep for most Nigerians. How can we sleep when things are all falling apart around us? It saddens my heart to see the appalling state of our nation and the quick progressive decline in the quality of governance and the management of the polity.

Naija as it were has gone to the dogs and really, it’s only a matter of time before shit finally hits the fan. Because, we must hit rock-bottom before we can start to think of a Nigeria that is workable.
I have noticed lately that I am fast losing my gift, being able to fall asleep at will. It’s no longer happening for me like it use to. Thank God, I haven’t gotten to the point of popping different kinds of pills to be able to get some sleep. These days, I seem so consumed with the thoughts of how all of these injustices, poor leadership, the frustration, hopelessness, and despair amongst young Nigerians will all be resolved. How much longer can we all go on as if all is well.

The situations as appalling as they are reminds me of Asa’s song, “There is Fire on the Mountain, and no one seems to be on the Run” How much longer will it take our leaders to realise that they are sitting on a time Bomb. How much longer will it take the few good men and exceptional Nigerian youth to stop hiding under the bed, while the vile, the fraud, the gangsters, the 419ers, the thieves take over the polity?

Yesooooooo, we are all guilty, guilty of inaction, guilty of procrastination, guilty of being scared by our own shadow. Yet, we complain, talking bla bla bla all over the place and doing nothing. That is why the youth of this country are taken for granted. Look at how our once strong and vibrant youths have grown powerless, and have even become willing instrument and tools in the hands of vile and wicked politicians. Our young people have been so battered physically that they have lost the urgency to protest. How can they not know that the consequences of corruption, wasting of resources and stealing affect them, the youth more than anyone else? They have not realized yet that they are the ones who can’t go to school, and that most of their parents have been impoverished by this shit-system, and for the millions who graduate from the university, half baked; where are the jobs? Unreliable statistics say that about 28million young people are unemployed and about 5million join annually as the army of the unemployed youth grows, drugs, violence, despair and hopelessness have become a permanent fixtures in the lives of our dear youth. This is the Nigeria of today. A country so endowed, yet 60 percent of Nigerians are living below 1dollar/ 25cents a day. What a shame, what business has my country with poverty? How far, great Nigerian youths?

The old foxes, old fraudsters, many of those who had been in leadership position in the past, wrote this tragic script, they are still very much around, jostling for position and power.

Most annoying is when they pay lip services saying, “the future belongs to the youth”, which youth? The one they cloned, or the ones yet unborn. Because all these old foxes that should be put to pasture are still dragging it with the young people not ready to quit the stage, unless they die there.

They have become deaf, dumb and blind to the pains and sufferings of ordinary Nigerians. The criminal nature of most of our leaders is what has given impetus to criminal gangs, kidnappers, militants, terrorists, money doublers, gangsters who prey on innocent citizens as effectively as the yahoo yahoo leaders’ prey on Nigerians.

Nigeria has become their slot machine. This is how they have weakened our youth, because even the leaders so far, lack creativity. All they have produced for the past 38yrs is mediocrity. The youth cannot make good decisions and hence can’t make good leadership, double wahala. These are the kind of leaders our youth emulate, being schooled in the arts of making it by all means even if they have to sell their mothers.

Most of these yahoo leaders are getting rich at the expense of the masses and Naija youth. What can they produce, except buy houses, cars, posting their new acquired jet planes on Facebook and all over the social media, keeping billions in bank accounts, while the youths and the masses suffer and the environment remains in shambles? How far great Nigerian youth?

I can feel the growing resentment the masses have towards the leadership, it is ‘us’ against them. The youth may seem not ready for a revolution, but the one thing they have in common that cuts across ethnic and religious differences is a genuine yearning for Change through a revolution. A revolution that will see the end of this rampart injustices and authority stealing that has left us poor and hopeless.

They also want to see how the mighty and the once untouchables, those responsible for bringing Nigeria to its knees face the music if possible with their blood. The youth obviously don’t believe in Nigeria anymore, even the unbelievers know we can no longer carry on like this. People argue that the youth are not capable of retrieving their stolen future ever again. Just like we never believed that a Nigerian for whatever reason could strap himself with bombs and blow himself up.

When Boko Haram started, many including myself believed that all who were involved must have been fanatics from neighbouring countries. Loh and behold, they were many Nigerian youth involved. For them, it was better than dying like a chicken. What about the naija guy who failed to blow himself and the plane up, in far away America? The army of desperate youth is growing, not to talk of the kind of arms that have come into this country; God help us. For those who still think that the Nigerian youth are too disorganized and weak to confront these demons, I say, it’s possible. They have a common enemy, namely; hunger, poverty, hopelessness, frustration and a strong satanic hatred for our leaders and elites. You may be asking yourself who will lead this inevitable revolt. For many youth, the power is in their hands right now as you read this; the instrument of mobilization and you know what? It has started.

As humans, we communicate by expressing our feelings, our thoughts based on how we perceive certain situations. Most of the youth have become aware of the problem affecting them, most of them live on the social media highway to while away their time since millions of them are out of jobs or poses the faintest idea on what else to do. They are stranded, and most pitiful is that nobody cares.

This is where young people fellowship now to escape from the brutality of a harsh environment caused by those “bigger “than Nigeria.

Once people become aware of a common need or problem through interaction and discussion, it is easier for them to create a mobilizing strategy towards a common goal. From the bush, the house, in the car, or even from across the seas, the exceptional ones will control millions through the social highway networks. I can feel the rage, the anger and the strong satanic hatred for our kleptomaniac leaders. I pray for the seemly fragile, deflated Nigerian youth, the victims of bad and selfish leadership. Young Nigerians; no matter where they are from, all face the same sad and evil reality created and perfected by a common enemy.

We all know the problem of Nigeria; they say a country deserves the kind of leadership it gets, hmmmmm… Nigerian youth… how far?

Where are the exceptional youth who will remedy us from this hopeless situation? If it’s not road accidents because of bad roads, it is incessant strikes because government still has not lived up to its promise to inspire the teachers. However, their children are all abroad while ours study with candle light and kerosene lamps in a country capable of providing power for all.

Inflation is tearing families apart and causing parents to abandon their duties. Haba, the iniquities are just too much to recount, it’s not fair in the eyes of God. As these yahoo yahoo people continue to rob us of our lives and future, ironically they are facilitating this revolution.

When the chips are down, the youth will no longer think on religious lines or ethnic differences; they will be so filled with hatred, vengeance and anger.

They will vent this on all those who have brought them sorrow, tears and a bleak future. There will be a spark as young people pour out on the streets hunting for their enemies and serving them a dose of mob justice. The time and how, I know not.But yes, it is boiling over; the handwriting is not only on the walls but on the faces of the angry youths I see on a daily basis.

Nigerian youth… how far? na una hand Nigeria dey. Beat the drum for change and a better life. Let’s stop blaming our leaders and elders. If they have failed us, we can’t afford to fail ourselves. Let us use our strength to cut off corruption in this land. Make una no fall my hand…

Na Charlyboy D Areafada dey yarn.

"I Wish D' Banj and Don Jazzy can come back together" - Tiwa Savage

Tiwa, Mavin Records’ first lady, said somewhere at the back of her mind, she prays that the two music luminaries and founders of defunct Mo’Hits Records should come back together.

“I am still in shock and when I listen to songs like Suddenly, I am like is this really happening? And I feel like they have left a void in the music industry in Nigeria and in Africa,” Tiwa said in a special feature on her in the latest edition of StyleMania magazine.

The songstress said she could not really point to what caused the rift between the two friends beyond different news reports she read in the media.

Tiwa, however, admitted that in line with some people’s perception of Don Jazzy, the super producer is indeed a “mysterious” guy.
“I’ll tell you the honest truth about Don Jazzy…he really is like that. He doesn’t really open his heart easily to people. He just accepts what happens and he moves on. I mean he is the Don, so I can’t go up to him and say ‘Jazzy, what really happened. I just keep my mouth shut,” she said.

In the interview, Tiwa defended the open show of sensitive body parts in her video which has attracted a lot of flaks.

“You know a lot of people say that in Africa we don’t like to expose ourselves and that is actually a big lie because if you check the history of Africa, we were actually very exposed. So I think it is quite ironic because people think that the western world is influencing us whereas we are the ones influencing the western world,” Tiwa argued.

LUIS SUAREZ: The Tussle Goes On..."To leave or not to leave??"

Liverpool's steadfast determination not to sell Luis Suarez - certainly not to one of their main rivals - means the striker's long-running transfer saga seems destined to run for a while yet.
The Uruguay international may have burned his bridges with many at Anfield by threatening to hand in a transfer request this week and take the club to a Premier League tribunal to make good his escape.
But the club will not allow their hand to be forced and maintain he is not for sale and the clause in his contract which Arsenal thought they had activated with a £40,000,001 bid - their second offer - is not an automatic selling one.
With both sides intransigent about their own interpretation of the player's contract, it seems Suarez's future may end up being determined by neither party if lawyers are brought in to fight it out.
Suarez has enlisted the help of the Professional Footballers' Association to seek a way out but chief executive Gordon Taylor admits there may not be a straightforward answer.
"It is a delicate situation and we are trying to help," he said.
"These buy-out clauses have caused no end of problems in the past and they continue to do so because of the way they were drafted at the time.
"He believes the £40million amount that is mentioned, if that is offered that gives him the right to go.
"Liverpool, from their side, are saying that is a minimum figure from which they will consider negotiation and of course they will want to keep the player, unless they replace the player with someone as good or better, which is not going to be easy in a short period of time."
The police in Lagos State, western Nigeria, have arrested a young man identified as Dada Ajibo from Niger Republic for attempted arson.
He was said to have been found under a car parked at a filing station in Akowonjo with a lighter while attempting to set the car ablaze and cause explosion in the area.
The suspect, Dada Ajibo
The suspect, Dada Ajibo
The incident caused serious commotion in the area Tuesday because the residents were apprehensive that Ajibo might be a member of terrorist group, Boko Haram, bombing and killing people in northern Nigeria.
Ajibo was arrested and detained at Gowon Estate Police Division where he is being interrogated for allegedly attempting to set the filing station ablaze, along with three other accomplices now at large.
The middle aged man was found under a red Volkswagen Golf car with a  razor blade and lighter beside Oando Filing Station located at 170, Akowonjo road by Cele bus stop, Akowonjo.
While he was attempting to cut the fuel pipe with the blade under the car, the residents who suspected him alerted a mobile policeman guarding a nearby bank who arrested him.
The policeman found on him two Niger Republic passports, a razor blade and a lighter. This gave rise to suspicion by the residents that he wanted to cause explosion and destruction in the area.
The manager of the Oando filing Station where the incident happened, Mr Rabiu Omoniyi, said that the man went under a parked Golf car without the knowledge of the owner with lighter and a blade, ostensibly to burn the car which could have set the filing station and other companies around the area ablaze.
The policeman who arrested him said when the suspect attempted to escape, he threatened to shoot him, which made him to stop running.
He said he alerted the DPO at Gowon Estate who sent his men to take him to the station.
“He confessed that he was an illegal immigrant from Niger Republic,” the policeman said.

A human rights activist, Commrade Babatunde Ashafa, said that Lagos residents should be more vigilant and report any suspicious movement in their area to the police to forestall any danger.
He said that the Boko Haram sect have scattered after they were dislodged in the north and there is possibility that they have entered Lagos, recalling that 42 members of the sect were arrested recently by soldiers in the state.
Ashafa also called on the security agencies to collaborate more with the citizens and human rights groups in the state to ensure that the citizens are protected.

Chidi Lloyd, the embattled leader of the Rivers House of Assembly, was granted bail by Justice Latan Nyordee of a Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, southern Nigeria, this morning with the sum of N10 million and three sureties who must have landed properties in the state capital.
He was ordered to deposit his international passport before the court.
At the time of this report, Lloyd and his legal team were processing his bail papers.
However, there were fears that the embattled lawmaker may be re-arrested by officials of Economical Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, who have been interrogating him on the financial management of the Rivers Assembly.
Meanwhile, there have been mixed reactions to the bail. The Deputy Speaker of the House, Leyii Kwanee, commended the courage of the Judge for doing what is right in the eyes of the law, especially when a suspect is deemed innocent until proven guilty and Lloyd had been denied medical attention since incarceration on 26 July to date.
However, Jerry Needam, the Media Special Adviser to Felix Obuah, a factional leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, condemned the bail granted the lawmaker.
“This is a shame. We are not surprised that he has been granted bail. We alerted Rivers people that immediately the state Attorney General took over the case yesterday that Chidi Lloyd would be granted bail. I hear some people are happy. What are they happy about?”
On what his party would do, he said that the matter would not be left lying low until justice is seen to be done.
“We are talking about a case of somebody we attempted to kill his fellow colleague and that person is lying critically ill in the hospital.”
At the time of the report, Lloyd was being escorted to Port Harcourt prisons to finalise his bail papers.
